Transfer your number to TextNow: A Guide

Transferring your number to a new carrier isn't always the easiest process, and comes with a lot of questions. Luckily, at TextNow, we're all about ease, so we made porting in your number as simple as can be with this quick guide.

Can I port my phone number into TextNow?

The short answer is: yes! The long answer is: Yes, if you have an active American mobile phone number.

We cannot currently port in any numbers outside of the U.S, such as Canadian phone numbers. It is also important to note that we will only port in a number if you are using our nationwide 5G service (with a TextNow SIM card).

How do I port in my number to TextNow?

If you're looking to port your number to TextNow to take advantage of our Free Essential Data service (who wouldn't?), here are the steps to follow:

  1. Order a TextNow SIM card
    As mentioned above, we currently only port in numbers to our wireless (5G) service. To connect to that service, you need a TextNow SIM card. Don't worry, it's a one-time purchase, and once activated, you may never have to pay a phone bill again.

  2. Prepare the account information from your previous carrier
    In order to complete any number transfer, your new provider needs to know the account information associated with that number from your current one. This includes:

    The phone number you’d like to transfer.

    The name of the account holder for your current phone plan.

    The account number for your current phone plan.

    The number transfer PIN for your current phone plan.

    It's important that the number is still active during the transfer process (it will get denied otherwise), so don't cancel the service with your current provider until your number transfer is complete.

  3. Fill out TextNow's port request form
    Once you order a SIM card (or activate one), you will be able to submit a number porting request on the TextNow app.

    Simply open the app, head inside the menu by tapping on the 3 horizontal lines on the top left and select "Bring Your Number."

Can I port my number out of TextNow?

Yes, you can transfer your number from TextNow to another carrier as well. You will need to contact our live chat support (available every day 10am-5:30pm EST) to receive your account information.
